Jessica,
Why the knock down on our company? You do not know where our glass comes from and furthermore because of Vetrazzo, we are doing very well here. Thank you so much in your interest of our company. It's nice to know that we are making waves there!

Don't be fooled by the feel good title of post consumer glass touted at Green World Glass. True post consumer glass utilized at Vetrazzo offers distinctive one of a kind panels and are certainly variable and part of our story. If everything is consistent, buyer beware.

In summer, we have more Chardonnay and Heineken bottles, in winter, it's more Champagne and Cabernet and microbrew, root beer, and olive oil. Therefore, we do have "seasonal differences" in material. The glass we use is re-purposed )crushed as is and bagged and never re-melted from the post-consumer pile; we use it as we get it.

Most companies who go after our competitor's model remelt recycled glass to make the claim they are tapping into post consumer glass. If you see non-variable samples, you can be assured the glass has been remelted, pigmented and crushed to order from a 3rd party. Transparency and sleuthdom is what's required to find the truth, I urge you to ask the simple question about what post-consumer glass utilization looks like and if re-melting is the part of the equation, can you feel as good as if you were doing true waste diversion?

Vetrazzo does not use fly ash in production of our gorgeous and green 100% recycled glass in concrete surfacing material. The percentage of recycled glass by weight in the product averages 85% of the total weight approximately 700# per slab. This means nearly a thousand bottles comprise each slab; 100% of which are repurposed and kept from landfill.

While it has long been PERCEIVED that fly ash is a positive attribute, it has many questionable properties. Do your homework, read about all of the products in the category of recycled glass surfacing material and you will find that Vetrazzo is truly a leader of sustainable building material from procurement to manufacturing to the end product. See news of our EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) www.vetrazzo.com/hi-res/press/VetrazzoEPDNewsFinal(1).pdf and be sure to visit our website at www.vetrazzo.com

Hopefully, the enlightened will see the gold standard vs. marketing certification and raise the bar on what it means to be green...It's all about transparency vs. intention.

This is such cool stuff and so completely out of the average person's price range. It is very frustrating. I have 2400 sq feet to recover in our "fixer-upper". At $15-$30/sq foot that is $36,000-$72,000! Sigh.

Hi - I'm also looking at Avonite, which has a recycled line. It seems to be a bit more available (The Expo Design Ctr. of Home Depot carries it)

I fell in love with icestone when I saw it and the fact that it is a green product sealed the deal for us. That is until we got the price! Unbelievable $130 a square foot. We picked a mid level color. I have seen many sites say that the price is comprable to high end granite, I'm not sure that's true. We were quoted $13,500.00 for our kitchen for icestone and $8800 for the "high" end granite we also considered. *Sigh* we will not be using the beautiful Icestone. My husband about fell over with the icestone quote. He said "Are we getting platinum or concrete and recycled glass"? I guess it's not easy being green (unless of course you manufacture icestone, lol).
