COUNTERTOPS: Watch the making of an eco-friendly terrazzo countertop

December 2, 2007

terrazzo countertopTerrazzo style countertops are eco-friendly greener alternatives for your kitchen or bathroom remodel.  These countertop products are made from recycled components such as glass and porcelain, and held together with special mixtures depending on the manufacturer (usually a resin or a cement).

But how are these countertops actually made?  How are the colors mixed?  How is the glass polished so that it is not sharp?  Here is a fantastic video on the process, and a great overview of these beautiful products.

Hi all-

My husband and I are thinking of building a home in SW Illinois. Questions: how durable are these products? What is the pricing like? Do the products require sealing?

I’m not enamored of granite because of durability/sealing issues, and am willing to look at other options. Are any of these options available to look at in the St. Louis, MO area?

Thanks.

Hi Laura. I’m in Edwardsville, IL and thinking of using terrazzo. Did you decide upon it? I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

I can make your counter top for you with coke bottles. I have made three Terrazo tops now. On site. They turned out great

I love this stuff! I collect Coca~Cola items and have wanted to do my countertop n recycled Coca~Cola bottles for a few years now. Wish it wasn’t so expensive though!
