APPLIANCES: Sears Unveils Kenmore Elite Oasis(HT) Washer & Oasis(ST) Dryer

February 19, 2008

Laundry Pair Combines High Efficiency with Deep Clean Functionality and SteamCare Technology

Last week Sears unveiled the Kenmore Elite Oasis(ST) SteamCare dryer and Oasis(HT) washer, which combine a practical steam function in the dryer with powerful cleaning in a top load washer. Making its debut at Sears stores in March 2008.  Pictures and details of the new products are hard to find at this point, so the images we used below are from 2007 models.  Here are the details on these new more efficient washer and dryer products.

Kenmore Elite’s SteamCare technology, first introduced in the HE(5t)(TM) Steam Dryer in 2007, harnesses the power of steam by saturating dry clothing with a fine mist of water while simultaneously heating the interior of the appliance. The water and heat work together to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and odors, so consumers can avoid washing an article of clothing that may only need refreshing, saving both water and energy.

The company claims that the new Oasis(HT) washer cleans better than any other model among leading brand top loaders, offering features like gentlewash(TM) technology to clean delicate items and Catalyst(R) Cleaning Action to help ensure bright whites. The TimedOxi(TM) option, available in a top load model for the first time through Oasis(HT), releases oxygen-based stain fighters at the precise time for powerful stain-fighting performance. Additionally, the washer is certified by the National Sanitization Foundation to eliminate 99.9 percent of certain bacteria found in clothes, sheets and towels.

Kenmore continues to deliver on high efficiency with this newest addition to the Oasis line up, as both models are more efficient than first generation Oasis HE models, surpassing ENERGY STAR standards and reaching Tier II Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) ratings. Kenmore claims, the Oasis(HT) washer saves 63 percent more water and 65 percent more energy than comparable laundry pairs on the market(2). Adding to the efficiency, the Save Energy Plus feature conserves up to 20 percent more energy by extending wash times using cold water in cycles that may typically use hot water.

The Oasis(HT) washer’s Invizible Agitator(TM) sits low in its drum, allowing more space for clothing or bulky items like comforters and winter coats. Transparent, tinted glass doors on both the washer and dryer deliver a unique aesthetic, and consumers interested in second floor installation will be comforted to know that the Kenmore Elite Oasis creates the fewest vibrations in the industry according to the company.

The Oasis(HT) washer offers Kenmore Canyon Capacity(TM) — 4.6 cubic feet of cleaning space that efficiently cleans up to 24 bath towels in a single load. Also available in the Oasis(ST) dryer, the exclusive 7.4 cubic feet Canyon Capacity ensures that a full load from the washer will be effectively dried.

TurboDry(TM) technology in the Oasis(ST) dryer uses a 35 percent larger blower to increase airflow, drying a load of laundry more quickly than it takes to wash one. The Dual Action Drying(TM) system also contributes to faster dry times by simultaneously promoting airflow and tumbling. Gentleheat(TM) technology uses an advanced computer to measure air temperature and moisture more accurately and calculate exactly how long a cycle should run, resetting the temperature as needed to improve fabric care

Price and Availability

The Oasis(HT) and Oasis(ST) pair will be available in white in March 2008 at for the regular retail price of $1,099. SteamCare and energy efficiency are also available in the HE(5t) Steam Laundry pair in white and the designer color, barolo. Prices range from $1,499 to $1,599 for washers and $1,199 to $1,299 for dryers depending on color. Base pedestals retail for $259.99 each in color and $229.99 each in white.

Don’t buy this machine. I was enticed by the energy efficiency claims and water savings; however, the machine is little over a year old and already needs repair. Bearings are wearing out and it sounds like an aircraft ready to take off in the spin cycle. Have also had problems with electronic controls and odor. This is the most expensive appliance I have ever purchased. If esitmated repair approaches $300 I am getting rid of
the machine and going back to a conventional washer. My previous washer lasted 15 years.

I am absolutely disgusted with Sears and will never purchase anything from them again. My washer (Mod 110.27087602) is a little over a year old and it is giving me every error code there is including ones that are not even in the manual. I get F51, 80, F2, C0-9. Yesterday I had to unplug it b/c it was doing it’s own thing even though I wasn’t even washing anything at the time. It actually turned itself on so it could beep all day and flash error codes at me. Absolutely ridiculous. I called Sears and was transferred from recall (not under any recall) to customer service (no help) to parts to find out how much this control panel would cost ($242.15 plus $109 for the repair man to come out). At that cost I am going to Best Buy and purchasing a new one for $314 and again I will never purchase from Sears again. PS. While on the phone about my washer, they informed me that there was a recall on my refrigerator light (never noticed that as a problem but did notice that my freezer doesn’t close properly and that is not covered, of course.) Do not buy from Sears!!!! They do not care about their customers!

What a pile of junk! I can’t believe what’s under the hood of this crap. I had a hose (they glue the hose fittings together so you have to buy what it’s connected to) fail and destroy my wall and oak molding. Never-ever again will I purchase a Kenmore product or Sear’s appliance.

I agree with every one. I will never buy anything from sears again. My Kenmore Elite Oasis washer and dryer suck! The washer smells and leaves white stuff on my dark clothes. The dryer started up on its own at 5:30 in the morning then started to beep and show error codes. I called sears and the were no help at all. I know they know what the error codes mean but they won’t tell you if your warranty is out because they want to send someone out so they can rip you off.

Take it from an appliance tech. The best washer to ever
have is a whirlpool or kenmore old style traditional
washer. Also marketed under the names of Roper,kitchen-aid, or Estate. These are called direct-drive washers. They
do not use a belt.G.E.’s are sorry.Maytags are sorry.Frigidaires are okay but don’t hold up too long.
Just don’t ever buy a front load washer. They are too expensive, and they don’t last.

So much for Sears Quality. My new dishwasher hasn’t broken, but I am waiting. Replaced 25 year old GE products with Sears Elite. My wife’s choice. First stove lasted 3 days, had to be replaced. I am on my 4th refrigerator in 6 weeks. All won’t keep items cool unless on the maximum setting. Refrig manual says 0 degrees in freezer, 37 degrees in refrigerator. This only happens at max settings on all refrigerators. But then, I check my temperatures with a thermometer, which most people don’t. The repairman said don’t buy Sears. Ever. I wonder if their energy star rating was based on 30 degrees in the freezer and 55 degress in the refrigerator. It is colder in my garage. The microwave, after one week had a noise in the door. I removed the door and lubricated it. It is fine now. I understand why they push the extended warranty. You will need it. Aside from the 6 days I had to take off for the repairs.

I haven’t had any problems with my set at all! I got them from a Sears scratch and dent outlet. There was a minor scratch on the side of the dryer and a sticker melted onto the glass of the washer. We probably put more dents and dings in the set by just moving them into the basement. And I saved over 500$ buying from the outlet. The washer is amazing! It spins the clothes out evenly so that I never have an unbalanced load and if the drum does become unbalanced during the spin cycle, it beeps and flashes signaling that it’s stopped until you move everything around. The dryer is huge! I use it to clean my down comforter (the steam takes the smell right out). The only down fall (which is my own fault) is that I have to unplug it every time there is a storm. I’ve heard the horror stories about replacing the motherboard and by unplugging it, I avoid a power surge ruining it altogether.

It’s JUNK ! We bought our Oasis set in mid year, 2006. They were out to wash on the washing machine twice before deciding they had to replace some sensor which seemed to have fixed the problem. If I remember correctly, that was a recall ‘fix’. The dryer has been a major pain in the a_ _ ! They quit trying to repair it and got us a replacement almost a year to the day we bought the first one. Now it doesn’t want to dry 90% of the time. Keeps saying to check the lint screen. If there is the smallest piece of lint Anywhere on or around the screen, it will not dry. The manuel says to use a brush and hot water to clean the lint screen which is TOTALLY ridiculous ! Removing the lint from the screen as we have done for the last 30 years should be sufficient enough. Why should these things be that damn sensitive ?! Even the service man said they are junk ! I am calling Sears today to demand a solution to these problems - why are we paying thousands of dollars for these ’so-called wonderful machines’ to receive only JUNK ?! This is one voice that WILL be heard at Sears and we will either get new machines or a refund even if I have to find the President of Sears himself !

I agree…DO NOT BUY A KENMORE ELITE OASIS DRYER OR WASHER… I purchased both 2 1/2 years ago and now the entire computer panel is out on my dryer. They want me, of course, to purchase their extended warranty for $200 ONLY covering the dryer for ONE year!!! I went off on the customer service department, which by the way BARELY spoke English, and told him I don’t want his stupid apoligies I want my damn money back! I told them I will NEVER purchase another Sears product and am going to Lowes tonight to buy a basic large capacity dryer with NO computer crap!!!

SEARS SUCKS!!!

I have the Kenmore Elite HE 5T washer….in such a short time, it is displaying the code F 70-I misplaced the manual and need to know what that code means…went online to find many customers are experiencing horrific problems…I’m afraid my difficulties have only just begun…I called the toll free # (1 800 847-9083) to find out if my washer is on their “recall list”-was advised to call next week when they are authorized to check/verify…in the mean time, I’ve called the Sears Store but not yet open for business…will update

I am experiencing problems with my Kenmore Elite Oasis Dryer. I purchased my dryer in October, 2008 and I still haven’t figured how to dry my plush cotton bath towels and wash cloths. I paid so much for this dryer; my towels should be soft and fluffy. My towels are too hard and they shouldn’t be. I have tried every setting on the dryer, but I still haven’t figured this out yet. My mother purchased a high-efficiency Maytag washer and dryer in 2006 and it washes and dries her towels beautifully. I had planned to buy a Maytag, but the company was bought out by Whirlpool. During this period of time no Maytag washers or dryers were being made. I am sure I would have done better if I had bought a conventional washer and dryer. I had a Hotpoint and it lasted for twenty-five years. This high-efficiency washer and dryer by Kenmore is not worth the price you pay.

I commented yesterday regarding my Kenmore Elite HE 5T washer…contacted Sears Store where washer was purchased…the person I spoke to couldn’t (or wouldn’t) tell me what the code F 70 meant…I made it perfectly clear that the product was faulty in such a short time of use…reported to me the machine was not on the recall list…was away from the phone for long periods of time…I went from product services department who referred me to managemyhome.com then transferred to department for recall (?) to Kenmore’s direct line (1 888 536-6673) who referred me once again to managemyhome.com then referred to product resolution line (recall line) (1 800 659-7026)with no results, then, referred again to the consumer product safety commission…All the while, every individual I spoke with said they were more than happy to schedule a service call to “find out the problem” Are there others who have had difficulty with this washer?
