Lilipad Studio: Eco-Friendly furniture for your remodel

January 19, 2009

Our kiddos are growing and when it is time to buy new furniture, of course I want to make eco-friendly choices.  While searching, I came across some of the most charming pieces I’ve seen (green or not), by Lilipad Studio.

An interior design consultant and mother, Laura Higdon, combines hand-crafted, hand-painted, and artistry to create this exquisite line of children’s furniture.  Each piece is a lovely combination of vibrant color, culture, and patterns.  Stamps are lightly applied to the furniture.  Then, the stamped paint is hand-painted over, ensuring the continuity, quality, and hand-painted uniqueness of each piece.   An heirloom for generations to come.

Now, Laura has a business partner, Ben Sinnamon, and a team of artisans to help her Idaho business furnish delighted families, shipping across the globe.  Their company is committed to:

- environmental responsibility
- sustainability
- responsibly forested wood products certified by the FSC (Forrest Stewardship Council)
- VOC free paint
- unforgettable design
- lasting quality
- durability

Be sure to look at the Lilipad Studio Website.  The photographs of their furniture are breathtaking.  Click here to see their collections page.  If you’re wondering about their eco-friendly ideals, you can learn more at their FAQ page.  You’ll find information about forestry practices and reasoning, VOCs, quality VOC paint options out there, gift purchases, gift wrapping and the Lilipad Studio design process.  If you have more questions, contact them here.  To find a retailer with Lilipad Studio furniture, click here (US and Canada at this time).

I wish I could say that there are many companies like Lilipad Studio: beautiful, thoughtful children’s furniture that is eco-friendly, and one near you.  But at this time, they don’t exist, or are poorly marketed.  So if you do find a noteworthy company, let us at GetWithGreen know so that we can spread the word.  Until then…

Next time you need some furniture for your children or loved ones, look to Lilipad Studio.  You will offer an artful treasure and feel confident in your eco-friendly choice.

I hear you! I am redecorating my home office and I told myself I wanted to make it environmentally-friendly! It was actually really easy to find quality eco-aware pieces. There’s one site I really liked called officedesigns.com that had a “green gallery” with all recyclable and LEED certified furniture. They have great service too, when I called they were beyond friendly.

FYI, There is no such thing as LEED certified furniture. Any furniture that has the USGBC / LEED logo on it simply measn that the manufacturer is a member of the USGBC. Certain types of furniture, based on the materials they are made of and even the manufacturing process can earn you LEED credits towards your project’s LEED certification. Any furniture manufacturers that call their products LEED certified are misrepresenting themselves as there is no such thing.
